Frankincense
An incense of biblical renown, traditionally made from a resin called 'olibanum'. For our frankincense, a little rose has been added to this resin, to create a sweet, woody fragrance that is perfectly suited to everyday use. It is grouding, calming and earthy.
Frankincense can help with depression and anxiety and is a known anti-inflammatory.
The olibanum is a resin harvested from the Boswelia tree. Overharvesting and climate change have put this tree at risk in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula, but please rest assured that we only use Indian frankincense.
If you like the resinous properties of frankincense, you might like to try 'Chandra', a distinctive and outstanding fragrance in our 'online only' range. 'Dhyana' in the same range carries a lot of frankincense too.
Jasmine
Soft and mild, jasmine is the fragrance of purity. It is a little dry and green, pleasant and soothing. Jasmine can help you to relax and to mend frayed nerves.
If you prefer a stronger jasmine fragrance, you may like Aravind and Pavitra in our 'Online only' range of Mother's India Fragrances.
Lotus
The most complex fragrance of our 21 Mother's Fragrances, Lotus is floral and sweet, but well grounded.
Lotus is inspiring, supportive and helps to clear negative energy.
A lotus grows in murky water and its roots take hold in the mud below. Its ability to let the dirty water run off its petals and leaves makes that the lotus is always pristine and clean despite its environment. Its flower is beautifully shaped and perfect.
As such the lotus flower has become a symbol of purity, of persistence and of spiritual awakening. It is the logo of The Mother's Fragrances and of the family of businesses and friends that has sprung up around our incense. It is the symbol of the mission and vision that drive all that we do at Greater Goods. So you could say that this one is personal.
Myrrh
Myrrh is an old incense of biblical renown. The resin of the Commiphora tree has been prized throughout the ages for its warm fragrance, and has its use in purification rituals and dedications.
For our myrrh incense, the myrrh resin is carefully blended with a supporting woody base to make it an accesible fragrance for everyday use.
Our Indian friends say that myrrh brings peace. Bring it on, we say.
If you like Myrrh, you may also enjoy the stronger Hansa and Veda in the 'online only' India Fragrances.
Opium
Opium is a heavier, exotic fragrance, with a nice woody base and a hint of oriental spice.
Bold, confident and a remover of obstacles, it has use in space clearing and in healing.
The sweet scent of opium can help create an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation, making it very suitable for meditation and prayer.
Patchouli
The distinctive fragrance of patchouli leaves, softened with a hint of rose and enriched with a variety of herbs. The old favourite with a modern twist.
The scent of patchouli, which is a plant closely related to our mint, is said to be uplifting and promoting of peace and calmness. Patchouli can as such help to relieve anxiety, depression, and stress.
If you like Patchouli but you are looking for something stronger, try 'Lila' or 'Aditi'. And we can also wholeheartedly recommend 'Bhakti', where patchouli plays a large supporting role to a beautiful mellow rose.
Sandalwood
In Indian traditions, sandalwood is highly valued for its cooling and balancing properties. It is believed to pacify pitta dosha, which represents fire and heat in the body.
Sandalwood incense is used to promote relaxation, calm the mind, reduce anxiety, and promote mental clarity. As such it is a great aid to meditation.
Due to its wonderful properties, sandalwood is used in the making of all the woody Mother's Fragrances. You can recognize these by their brown sticks. You will also find sandalwood in all our India Fragrances.
If you are in particular looking for a stronger version of our Mother's Fragrances sandalwood incense, you might like to try Yoga or Buddha.
We only use sustainable plantation-grown Indian sandalwood in the making of our incense.

In India it is used under the name Sambrani, to cleanse the home and atmosphere. It is also wonderful for clearing one's head and thoughts.
